Two years into the job and Clover Moore sacks her second CEO

Media Release

Less than 2 years into her reign as Lord Mayor, Clover Moore sacks her second CEO.

Today the Lord Mayor Clover Moore announced that Mr. Peter Seamer, CEO of the City of Sydney Council had resigned. This is less than one year into his contract and follows the sacking of previous CEO Robert Dom in late 2004. Today, Ms Moore refused to answer the question on whether Mr. Seamer had resigned or had been pushed.

Greens Councillor Chris Harris, “It seems coincidental that Mr. Seamer
resigned following the Lord Mayor’s attack on him at Council last night over the plan submitted by staff to build a 7 storey building on the old Water Police Site at Pyrmont. A plan that caused an uproar within the community and a plan that the Lord Mayor claimed she knew nothing about.”

Today Councillors were called to an emergency meeting by the Lord Mayor where she informed them that Peter Seamer had resigned.

“The Lord Mayor would not give a straight answer on whether she had pushed him. This is the second CEO she has sacked in less than two years. What is astonishing is that this is a man who was not only personally selected by the Lord Mayor for the position of CEO but has distinguished credentials in working with both councils and governments.” Councillor. Harris said.

“Sadly the Lord Mayor is not able to work with a man of this calibre. Why? Is this yet another example of the pressure getting too much for the Lord Mayor in juggling two roles - Lord Mayor of Sydney and the State Member for Bligh - and is Peter Seamer merely the fall guy to cover up Ms. Moore’s inability to do two jobs?” Councillor Harris said.
